Since Park Electric is a not-for-profit cooperative, any profit or margins are returned to members as capital credits. Capital credits are a "book figure" until retired in the form of a check to members. This money helps create the equity needed for Park Electric to remain financially solvent.
Generally, capital credits are returned within approximately 20 years. The board of trustees decides each year which year of capital credits to retire. For example, if a member paid a total of $1,000 for his/her electric bill in 1983 to Park Electric and if the cooperative booked a 5% margin in 1983 the member would be allocated $50 in capital credits. Park Electric may use 1983 allocated capital credits for up to 20-years. Anytime during that 20 years the board may elect to refund all or a portion of 1983 capital credits. If only a portion is paid, the remaining balance is paid in a subsequent year or years.
If you move out of Park Electric's service area, please keep the co-op informed of your current address so you will receive your capital credits.
